Hi Reader,
Most people think podcasts are about going viral. But for businesses, chasing downloads is a waste of time.
I know this because I used podcasting to land my dream job and later to build my business.
Back when I was coaching fitness, I saw firsthand how a podcast brought in paying clients. And when I launched my business in 2020, I used these same strategies to grow it—making all the mistakes along the way so you don’t have to.
And I don’t just use these strategies for myself—I’ve worked with a large roster of consulting clients who’ve used podcasting to land high-value clients, strategic partnerships, investors, and even dream guests. These are the exact systems I teach them.
Here’s how you actually turn a podcast into a high-value client machine in 2025.
The best business podcasts don’t need a million listeners per episode—they need the right 500.
That’s because most assume the only way to monetize a podcast is through ads and sponsorships. And if that’s your plan, you might need 25,000–50,000 downloads per episode just to make decent revenue.
But if you’re running a business, this is incredibly inefficient—unless you’re already well-known.
You have more profitable revenue streams sitting right under your nose that don’t require thousands of listeners to make a serious impact.
Here’s the real equation for business podcasting:
📈 Creator podcasting = 1M views → monetization via sponsorships
💡 Business podcasting = 300 RIGHT views → 1 client → high-value revenue
If you only need 5-20 new high-value clients this year, why chase millions of casual listeners?
Understanding Your Real Market Size
Before launching your podcast, get clear on what success actually looks like for your business.
There was a business owner I talked to who buys campgrounds across the US. He mentioned how 5,000 subscribers would be his '1 million'.
Same thing for me in podcasting, there's 5 million total podcasts. Only around 350k are actively publishing.
Now when I was coaching fitness, the numbers I was doing on podcasts, Instagram posts, etc were in the tens of thousands. Had hundreds of people saving and sharing them.
Why? Because fitness applies to almost everyone. It's a $244 billion market, which gave me a wider surface area to capture.
- SaaS subscription ($20/month): You’ll need higher volume to justify the effort.
- Professional services ($2,000-$10,000): A handful of quality clients can make your year. One of my clients told me how 5 new clients a year for a wealth manager is a major win.
- Home remodeling ($10,000+): Even 5-10 new clients could represent significant growth.
🚀 Reality check: Most businesses couldn’t even handle 10,000 new customers overnight. The support burden, the systems, and maybe manual parts of delivery. So why build a podcast designed for mass-market reach when all you need is a few hundred perfect-fit prospects?
The Relationship-First Approach
Business podcasting in 2025 isn’t about broadcasting—it’s about connecting. Every episode is a relationship-building opportunity with:
✅ Potential clients who gain trust through your expertise
✅ Industry leaders who become part of your professional network
✅ Strategic partners who open doors to new opportunities
📌 When you invite a guest onto your show, you’re not just creating content—you’re initiating a relationship. This person now has a vested interest in:
- Sharing the episode
- Introducing you to their network
- Potentially becoming a customer or partner
Most businesses cold pitch leads. I did this heavily when I started my business in 2020. And it works but its grueling.
With a video podcast, you’re sitting them down for hours without you being there. Huge difference.
📌 Example: There's a recent video that's gotten me 2 clients so far with less than 750 views at the time of closing. And that channel only has 1,060 subscribers.
That’s the power of business podcasting: You don’t need thousands of views, just the right eyes and ears.
How to Get High-Value Guests (Guest Pitch Template)
Many business owners struggle with inviting guests because of not knowing what to say.
Here’s a podcast guest booking template to make it easy.
I used this in 2016 to land people like Noah Kagan, Ben Greenfield, Dr. Andy Galpin, Noah Olsen and more.
And I've had clients who used this to land their dream guest. For example there's this retired cop that I worked with who got a conversation with one of his heroes from the History Channel.
Both of these people are nowhere near LA or New York by the way.
Which would've killed his chances maybe 20 years ago.
Building Your Content Ecosystem (4-Week Plan)
Your podcast isn’t just an audio or video file—it’s the centerpiece of your marketing strategy. Here’s a quick example of how your episodes can flow:
Instead of treating podcasting as just content, use it to fuel your entire marketing ecosystem.
But…
🚫 "I don’t have time."
✔ Solution: Batch record 4-6 episodes in one day. Most successful business podcasters do this to stay consistent without stress.
😴 "My industry isn’t interesting enough for a podcast."
✔ Solution: If people buy from you, they already care about your expertise. Just talk about their biggest pain points and questions.
📉 "I don’t have an audience yet."
✔ Solution: Your guests bring the audience when they share the episode. Plus, podcasting accelerates networking faster than cold outreach or conferences ever could.
Content Repurposing Workflow: How 1 Episode = 7+ Content Pieces
🎙 Podcast Episode (Long-form anchor content)
✍ Newsletter (Summarize key takeaways)
📄 LinkedIn Post (Turn insights into a text post)
📹 YouTube Clips (Cut 3-4 short segments for YouTube Shorts)
📸 Instagram Reels (Use captions + engaging clips)
📝 X / Threads (Break key insights into a multi-tweet format)
🎨 Carousel Post (Turn key insights into a visual LinkedIn/IG carousel)
🚀 How to Get Guests to Share Your Episode
✅ Send them the episode link + raw clips.
✅ Create a 30-second clip of their best moment.
✅ Tag them in social posts and engage with their audience.
✅ Mention their business in your email newsletter so they see the value of sharing.
✅ Ultimately, make them look good.
So many high profile guests would share my episode with their audiences purely because of how good it made them look.
✅ Look I'm on a podcast!
✅ I got asked great questions and therefore gave great answers!
✅ This show is defintiely going to grow, I'm glad I got here now.
✅ Wow my name is now next to these world champions and coaches.
The Efficient Funnel: No Fat
Your podcast isn’t just content—it’s a sales engine. But only if you engineer it right.
✅ Hyper-targeted topics – Address specific pain points your business solves.
✅ Strategic guest selection – Choose guests whose audience overlaps with your ideal clients.
✅ Conversion-optimized show notes – Include clear CTAs leading to your services.
✅ Follow-up systems – Nurture relationships with engaged listeners and guests.
Measuring Success: What Metrics Actually Matter?
📌 Leads generated (Did listeners contact you?)
📌 Meeting requests booked (Did prospects schedule calls?)
📌 Guest partnerships formed (Did guests introduce you to others?)
📌 Social shares (Are listeners actively recommending your show?)
🚫 What doesn’t matter as much?
- Total downloads – Vanity metric if you’re not monetizing via ads.
- Global rankings – Unless you’re in mass media, this is irrelevant.
Next Steps: Your 30-Day Launch Plan
🗓 Week 1: Define your podcast’s unique angle + ideal listener and guest profile
🗓 Week 2: Set up tech + record your trailer
🗓 Week 3: Pre-record 3-5 episodes with strategic guests
🗓 Week 4: Launch + promote strategically
The Bottom Line
In 2025, a business podcast isn’t about joining the creator economy—it’s about building an efficient relationship engine that delivers qualified prospects directly to your business.
The great news? You don’t need a million listeners—you just need the RIGHT listeners.
