The Skills AI Can't Train for You

Picture this: AI can diagnose your illness faster than any doctor, write your emails better than you can, and plan your vacation down to the minute. Yet for all its power, AI can't make you healthy, peaceful, or loved.
Naval Ravikant once said there are three things that can't be bought, they must be earned: a fit body, a calm mind, and a house full of love. As AI transforms our world at breakneck speed, these three have never been more valuable.
The "Buyable" Revolution
Look at what AI is revolutionizing: it's almost entirely about things you can buy your way out of or into.
Need a diagnosis? AI will speed up medical analysis.
Want better safety? AI will power smarter security systems.
Need to write better? AI will craft your emails.
Want financial advice? AI will optimize your portfolio.
Need entertainment? AI will create personalized content.
These are all problems that, fundamentally, can be solved with enough money and the right technology. AI is becoming the ultimate force multiplier for purchased solutions.
Why These Three Stay Sacred
But notice what AI can't touch: it can't make you fit, it can't make you calm, and it can't make your relationships loving. These require something money can't buy and AI can't provide:
- your personal effort
- your presence
- your commitment
You could hire the world's best trainer, but they can't do your burpees.
You could download every meditation app, but they can't quiet your mind.
You could buy the most beautiful home, but it won't be filled with love without your investment in relationships.
The Shortcuts That Don't Work
Of course, technology will try to sell you shortcuts:
Replace your dangly arms with bionic replacements! Skip the gym entirely!
Marry an AI companion! No messy human emotions!
Try this focus app! Meditation while you work!
But here's the catch: these "solutions" bypass the very struggle that builds the skills. The work is the point. The discipline you build doing push-ups creates discipline for other areas of life. The patience you develop in meditation translates to better relationships. The vulnerability required for love teaches you authenticity.
When you shortcut the process, you miss the transformation.
The Supply and Demand of Being Human
Here's where economics meets soul: as AI becomes abundant, genuine humanity becomes scarce.
Think about customer service. When everyone used automated phone systems, reaching a real human became precious. We'll literally wait on hold for 30 minutes just to talk to a person who might actually understand us.
This pattern is accelerating everywhere:
- AI can write thank-you emails, but a handwritten card moves us to tears
- AI can generate a workout plan, but having a human coach can guilt us into showing up
- AI can simulate conversation, but authentic human connection is irreplaceable
As the supply of AI interactions becomes infinite, the demand for genuine human experiences skyrockets. Your handwritten thank-you card becomes more valuable when everyone else is using AI. Your physical presence at a workout becomes more meaningful when everyone else is using virtual trainers.
The economics are clear: in a world flooded with artificial, the authentic becomes luxury.
The Skills That Can't Be Automated
Earning these three treasures requires uniquely human capabilities well beyond this list:
For a fit body:
- Self-discipline to show up when you don't feel like it
- Body awareness to listen to fatigue and pain signals
- Resilience to push through plateaus
- The ability to form sustainable habits over instant gratification
For a calm mind:
- Present-moment awareness that cuts through mental noise
- Emotional regulation when stress hits
- The patience to sit with discomfort
- Self-compassion during difficult times
For a house full of love:
- Empathy to truly understand others
- Vulnerability to share your authentic self
- Conflict resolution skills when disagreements arise
- The consistent showing up that builds trust
These skills can't be downloaded, delegated, or automated. Only small percentages of it might be. They're developed through practice, failure, and growth—the messy, human process of becoming.
The Internet Told Us Already
We've seen this movie before. The internet promised that unlimited information would solve our problems. In many ways, it has—you can learn anything, connect with anyone, access any resource.
It evened out a playing field that allowed access beyond the borders of your zip code.
Yet depression rates climbed. Obesity increased. Loneliness became an epidemic.
Why? Because knowing isn't being. Information isn't transformation. And downloading a solution isn't the same as living it.
Your Irreplaceable Advantage
This brings us to the real opportunity. As AI handles more of what can be bought, it actually amplifies the value of what must be earned. In a world where anyone can have an AI write their emails, the person who shows up in person stands out. When AI can generate fitness plans, the person who actually follows through wins.
The urgency is now. As we rapidly enter the age of AI abundance, those who neglect these fundamentals risk being left behind not by technology, but by their own neglect of what makes them human.
Your Exclusive Territory
So while everyone debates what AI will replace, you can focus on what it can't:
- Moving your body until it's strong
- Training your mind until it's peaceful
- Investing in relationships until they're loving
These remain your exclusive territory, your most valuable skills, your competitive advantage in an increasingly automated world.
