Best Cameras for Podcasting in 2026

The type of camera that works best for your podcasting setup starts with your format. Is the show in-person? Filmed remotely? Or a hybrid?

If your show is filmed remotely, it’s a relief because the setup time and cost is drastically lower than filming in-person with multiple speakers. This is also true if your main format is a solo podcast.

Let’s start with what has quickly become a favorite camera of mine for both in-person and remote episodes.

It’s the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Not only is it extremely portable, but it allows you to use it as a webcam when you connect to your computer. This is a big benefit that comes with most cameras nowadays.

If you find yourself filming remote episodes only, you won’t need the more expensive options, since you mainly need the webcam function. And if your solo episodes are shorter than an hour, the battery life is plenty.

Next up, Insta360 Link 2 Pro or Logitech Brio are both webcams that offer a budget-friendly upgrade that is noticeable. Mainly useful for remote podcasts.

If you decide that you want to invest in a digital camera, my top pick is the Sony FX30. There’s no recording limit, so once you hit record you don’t have to worry about it shutting off automatically after 30mins. This is a heavy duty option that will work for in-person recordings, but also can be used as a webcam for remote episodes.

If the FX30 is out of your price range, two strong options under $1,000 are the Sony ZV-1F and ZV-E10.

They’re designed for modern content creators and can also be used as webcams.

Yes, they can overheat with long recordings, but as webcams connected to a laptop, they work very well. And if your solo episodes are relatively short, you’ll be okay.

Using your phone as a webcam is also an option I highly suggest because of how high quality it is. A lot of people don’t like this option mainly because they need their phone.

So if you’re looking to upgrade your production quality, start with any of the options I’ve mentioned. And always pair with good lighting.

The best camera can look terrible with bad lighting, while a built-in laptop webcam can look amazing when paired with solid lighting.
